Plot Synopsis Many years ago, after the devastating Beanstalk War, Queen Cinderella began to take a dark path under the influence of her stepmother. Soon, the new Queen became more villainous and lustful for power. One night at the castle, a terrible event happened; the Fairy God Mother was slain. The deed was witnessed only by a young servant girl named Patience Muffet, who fled the kingdom to hide. After several years, Patience has come back to find the kingdom on the verge of destruction. She brings with her the mysterious and now legendary Shards of the Glass Slipper. Along the way, Patience befriends a mysterious “woman of the wild,” named Goldenhair, traveling with three bears. She also encounters a small, desperate band of rebels, led by General Snow White. Together, Patience and her newfound allies plot to defeat the evil Queen Cinderella once and for all. The group must act quickly, though, for the Queen has discovered an ancient gateway to another world that will give her limitless magical power... if it doesn’t destroy the whole kingdom first! This story take place almost two decades after “happily ever after.” Shards of the Glass Slipper rediscovers the darker roots of fairy tales and firmly plants them in the world of “serious” medieval fantasy adventure. Shards of the Glass Slipper features favorite fairy tale characters such as Cinderella, Snow White & the Seven Dwarves, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack & the Beanstalk, The Little Mermaid, Little Miss Muffet, The Frog Prince, Hansel & Gretel, and more in an epic Fairy Tale fantasy adventure!

Fairy Tales are instantly recognizable, endearing and always popular What’s your favorite fairy tale? Everyone has a favorite. The popularity of fairy tales is evident. Where would Disney be without its version of Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid etc., or even its most recent success, Enchanted? Consider too, the immense popularity of Shrek, and others such as Once Upon a Time, Grimm, movies like Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and The huntsman, Ever After, The 10th Kingdom there well over a dozen fairy tale movies being develop for release over the next few years; or the popular Broadway show Into The Woods which is also being developed for the big screen. Even the comic book “Fables” is quite popular. Shards of the Glass Slipper is a story that leaps from the child’s fairy tale into an exciting Fantasy Adventure that not only children would enjoy, but adults as well. Fairy tales have remained primarily children's fiction, yet these stories are chock full darker themes, of child abandonment, unwed pregnancy, cannibalism, and of adventureous characters of kings and princesses, witches, magic, fairies, monsters, talking animals, princes, and heroes. With these common elements throughout many fairy tales, it was a natural progression to start weaving together an all-encompassing story line. In fact, it is a perfect recipe for any great fantasy adventure story! Why not take these fantasy elements and popular characters and set them up for more adult themed fare? Given the continuing success of the fantasy adventure genre, my concept of combining fairy tales into a fantasy action adventure would be of prime interest across multiple markets. Shards of the Glass Slipper has been a project that I have been working on in varying degrees over the past few years. I’ve always been deeply interested in fairy tales. When considering my story, I based many of the familiar characters and events on the original tellings. I found that most fairy tales were quite dark in nature and this lent itself even more to the story I wanted to tell. Rather than simply “retell” each fairy tale, I created an “ensemble cast” and began to develop the many different characters into one "epic" story. Nor was this to be a straight retelling of these well- established characters. This also gave me an opportunity to meet and explore other characters related to the fairy tales, such as Cinderella’s mother, and Rapunzel’s adopted mother - to get to understand who they were and why they might have done what they did. As I developed the story, I explored how the familiar fairy tales might have come to be and how those characters might have grown up. For example, the helpless female protagonists of familiar fairy tales have matured over the years to be strong heroic leaders. Slowly, an intertwined history was beginning to develop - a timeline that spans three generations before Cinderella’s birth. In exploring these various story arcs, a world began to grow. These familiar characters began to live on. Shards of the Glass Slipper rediscovers the darker roots of fairy tales and firmly plants them in the world of “serious” medieval fantasy. I am excited to be able to share this exciting concept with you and I hope you will appreciate my enthusiasm for this story. Thank you for taking the time to consider my work.
